Following the confirmation of the relationship between the groom and the bride, an official engagement ceremony, known as "Shirni Khoori,"takes place. The primary purpose of this custom or tradition is to announce the upcoming marriage ceremony between the two families. The engagement function is arranged by the bride's family, and the event may range from a modest afternoon tea for immediate friends and family to a more elaborate catered gathering.During this event, the bride's relatives and friends typically play the tambourine as a gesture signifying celebration and joy.

In accordance with Muslim wedding traditions,, the engagement ceremony is one of those customs where the bride and groom get to know each other properly before marriage.

In certain regions, the groom, occasionally with the assistance of his future mother-in-law, is granted the opportunity to meet with the bride in private. This practice, known as "Namzad Bazi" or "fiancée play," provides an opportunity for the two to get to know one another before marriage.

The boy is expected to send gifts to his fiancée on any significant holiday that occurs between the engagement and the wedding. Due to the cost involved the boy's family tries to have the wedding take place as soon as possible.
